We want to explain to all writers and to our Published Authors', what Author Self - Publishing is all about. There are 2 types of Author Self - Publishing.
What is Author Self - Publishing?
1) The first type of Author Self - Publishing is where a printer is acting as a Publisher, as they will charge you for the ISBN - or they will mention to you that you need to buy a
ISBN for your book.
They will also charge you their publishing fees that is involved in printing your books.
When a printer, acting as a publisher, asks you to buy a ISBN, this will make you, the author, the publisher of your book. This means when that printer, acting as a publisher
prints your books up, you will receive all of those books at your door step as they are unable to distribute your book. This is because they are only a printer and not a actual
publisher of any book.
This means, since they asked you to pay for or to buy an ISBN for your book, this makes you the publisher of your book and you have all the selling and distribution rights to
your book. In addition, this printer / acting as a publisher has no selling rights to your book as they are just a printer only.
Now you will have to learn what you have to do as a publisher to distribute your book since you bought an ISBN and became a publisher without you knowing what was going
on.
When you sell your book you will indeed get all money from those book sales.
This is what these printers / acting as a publisher will tell you. They will tell you that you will get 100% of the book sales (Income from each book sales) from the people that you
sell your book to. That is because you are the only one selling your books so you will not have to split your money with anyone at all. Not until you start selling your book to
bookstores and to wholesalers where they will buy your book selling rights at the rate of 55%-63% off the cover price of your book.
We want to explain to all writers and to our Published Authors', what Author Self - Publishing is all about. There are 2 types of Author Self - Publishing.
What is the second type of Author Self - Publishing?
2) The second type of Author Self - Publishing are those publishers that own their own ISBNs...
These are actual publishers that have ISBNs that they own and they will assign an ISBN to the books that are published under them.
Once again the Author still has to pay the publishing fees that are involved in publishing your book. Along with all the advertising and promoting fees that the publisher does for
your book. This is why they charge the author from $6,000.00 and up to $12,000 to publish your book.
When a publisher owns their own ISBN they own the book rights and they are book resellers and they sell your book to bookstores / Main chain bookstore home office /
Distributors / Wholesalers. As your book sells the publisher will pay you your royalty payments based on their own publishing contract. This royalty can go from 15% -25%.
As these publishers own their own ISBNs and as they assign an ISBN to a book they publish, they own the book and the reselling rights as they sell your book to bookstores /
wholesalers / distributors, since they are the publisher of that book and they have all the reseller right of your book as you signed the publishing contract with that publisher. You,
the author, have no rights to the reselling of your book. You are the Author only and you are not a book reseller of your book to wholesalers / bookstores / distributors and you
are not the publisher of your book. You are just the author of your book.
As author you can do your own book signings / events and selling of those copies that you buy from your publisher to perform these events, and yes that money collected by you
from those book sales are yours 100%.
