Generating More Book Sales!
We thank you for visiting our site, we hope to see you back again soon.
You are visitor -

1. Develop your "elevator speech" - a brief, but punchy, overview of who you are and what your work is all
about. You never know who you will meet in an elevator, on a flight, standing in line... So always carry 2 or so
copies of your book when you go out and some fliers to hand out to people.
2. Create a compelling punch line to include in the signature of every email you send - compelling, but a soft-sell
for your book with every email contact!
3. What magazines publish around the topic of your book? Seek out opportunities to write articles, thereby
increasing your exposure and your credibility as an author. Also send them a copy of your book to see if they will
write a review.
4. Have you approached non-profit groups or associations? They often have newsletters that feature book
reviews, or even catalogs where their members shop.
5. The "big bang" theory is not always necessary. Many books will build their success over time as authors work
on their message and become more experienced in the business. Sometimes it takes a bit to decide what works
best for you. Keep working at it and make sure you're doing something every week!
6. Develop sound bites - as Mark Twain defined them "a minimum of sound to a maximum of sense." Ask
yourself, "What do I want my audience to remember?" Keep these sound bites in the top of your mind to use in
newspaper, interviews, radio talk shows, elevator speeches, etc.
7. Remember that you are known by the company you keep - get testimonials from powerful names that are
published authors' of the same writing genre of your book- aim high, think BIG!
8. Does your book offer useful information, teach a skill, or provide a platform for discussion? Teleseminars are
something you might want to look into. There are several companies that can offer you an inexpensive teleseminar
opportunity by providing you with a call-in number and passcode for attendees to use, and many of them even
offer recording options so that you can either sell or give away free printed copies of the seminar in the future.
Typical formats are either a presentation segment followed by a Q&A, or an interview format.
9. Also create your own website to talk about your book and to mention to people on where they can buy your
book- make sure you feature an email opt-in box to capture email addresses to build a database for future
marketing efforts - you'll want to notify all of your fans about your next book! Also on your website offer
autograph copies to your customers - as this will entice customers to buy directly from you, where you will realize
the greatest profit margins.
10. Since you have captured those email addresses, why not offer fans a reason to stay in touch? Prepare a
weekly or monthly newsletter that keeps you top-of-mind and keeps people talking about you and your book.

1. Remember that there is no magic bullet. A book is only as successful as the efforts put forth by the author.
2. Reach each of your markets multiple times, with a mix of tactics, using publicity, sales promotions, advertising,
and direct selling and personal interaction that you do with people that you meet at your own book signing / events.
3. Three Golden Rules: 1)Think in the long term; 2) Don't let today's challenges suspend tomorrow's forward
movement. Be persistent; 3) You must be doing something every day to market your book. Be creative in your
own authors' promotions book signing / events.

1. Is there a commemorative day, week or month that relates to your book? Piggyback the promotion for your
book about dogs with National Dog Ownership Day on September 18th, or promote your credibility as an expert
in your field during International Expert Success Month in March. Genealogy Book? Personal History Month is
May. Biography? May 16th is Biographer's Day. Audubon interest? January is National Bird Feeding Month.
And, for all of you Captain Sparrow fans and writers out there - September 19th is International Talk Like a
Pirate Day, for which Long John Silver is the patron saint!

1. News Releases - you're an author, you can write your own releases! Then, post the releases on related blogs
and websites, Facebook, Twitter, and Good Reads, etc. and tell people where they can buy your book and
include those links to your publisher website of your author page as well. Be sure to email your news releases to
local media as well.

1. Last week I recommended offering signed copies of your book for sale on your website. An additional thought,
you might want to offer a small discount as well to further entice customers to buy directly from you. This small
discount will still be much better than sharing 55% of all sales with Amazon.com or even with your publisher. But
you have to buy your extra copies of your book from your publisher in order to do this!
2. And, speaking of Amazon.com. Despite your best efforts, there will still be a group of people who are more
inclined to purchase from a trusted online source such as Amazon.com. Their name does carry a certain comfort
level for buyers. You can increase your profits from Amazon.com sales by setting up a MarketPlace account in
addition to your Advantage account. With MarketPlace you are paying Amazon a considerably smaller
commission (15%, I believe), and they reimburse you for shipping directly to the customer. Not only do you make
a higher profit, but you gather new names for your mailing list! To encourage book buyers to buy from you through
MarketPlace rather than through the regular Amazon channel, offer that signed book copy at a bit of a discount!

1. What exactly is a BLOG? It's several things.... A personal diary for public consumption, memos to the world -
wide - web, a breaking news outlet - essentially a place to collect and share items that you find interesting, and that
will benefit others. Obviously, you'll want this to reflect the content of your book!
2. Run a POPULAR BLOG. Success is all about likability - have a conversation, keep it easy. Be yourself, but
get over yourself. People want to know a little something about you, but remember that your BLOG should really
be for the reader.
--
10/14/2010
1. MEDIA PAGE – be sure to post interviews and copies of reviews in one easy-to-find place on your website.
People like to buy what others already love, and readers and media contacts will appreciate seeing what others
have to say about you and your book.
2. Schedule your book signing event at a time when the bookstore or other venue is most busy - confer with the
manager or community coordinator about what time period that really is.

1. Write an email announcement about your book and send it to friends and family members. But, don't stop there.
Ask them if they can each forward the announcement to 5, 10, 15 additional people, with an endorsement of
course, and encouragement to keep passing the message along. Make sure your email contact info is in the
announcement so that everyone, no matter how far down the trail, can easily connect with you.
2. Follow up this networking announcement with a status update to your friends and family. Thank them for their
support and let them know how many books were sold and how many people contacted you and from where.
Maybe your original announcement could feature a contest that awards a free copy of your book to the person
who responds back to you from the farthest point!
----
10/28/2010
1. Written Interview - pull together a question and answer interview with yourself, then post it on your website.
This will give people an opportunity to learn more about your subject, and also to get to know you just a little
better (because the interview will naturally be written in your voice!).
2. Online Press Kit - should include both high and low res front cover images, your author photo, press release,
suggested interview questions, a Q&A interview with yourself, article written about you and/or your book,
endorsements and reviews you have received from book reviewers, librarians and bookstore /customer buyers,
and a brief author bio.

1. Promoting your book should be a never-ending project. You must work tirelessly to keep your book in front of
buyers.
2. A good publicity campaign will be ongoing, will present valuable information and feature the benefits of your
book. Do not, under any circumstances, make your PR pitch sound like an ad for your book. A new book is not
newsworthy on its own - a new book that will help people maximize their meager holiday shopping dollars is
timely and relevant. What does your book offer to readers?

1. Did you know that some libraries, when you're able to call and set up a talk or author event, will also let you sell
your books - and you need give back only a small share of the proceeds to the library; the average is 10-percent.
2. When the time comes, send thank you notes to news people who featured you, wrote about and talked about
you and your book, to bookstore managers, librarians, your publisher - anyone who has helped you in your book
promotion.
3. Contact Hotels manager to rent a meeting room to set up, meet the author and book signing to sell your copies.
Contact Mall event manager to rent a table space in the hallway to do meet the Author book signing and to sell
your copies. Each event should be no more than 4 hours but it can be longer if you have people lined up to see the
author and to buy you book. Just because the event time is done and if you still have people you must stay and sell
your copies to those people no matter what. And those customer will thank you for staying.
4. Participate in local events wherever they are as you can rent a table space to set up to do meet the author and
book signing and sell your copies.

This can not be said enough....
1. Three Golden Rules: Think in the long term; don't let today's challenges suspend tomorrow's forward
movement. Be persistent; you must be doing something every day to market your book. Be creative in the
discussion forums that pertains to your book as this will create interest in you the author and in your book.
2. Reach each of your list of contacts multiple times - of interested people if it is through email's, your mailing list or
people that you had talked to - with a mix of tactics - direct selling to these people and personal interaction.
3. I've said it before, but it's important... Do something every day to get people's attention drawn to you and your
book and create your platform and Talk, Talk and Talk. You spend a lot of time on writing your book, now you
are a published author and as the author of your book you will be spending years talking about your book as long
as your book is in print.
4. As I had said this many times as well, and it's important... The success of any authors' book is all up to the
author on getting the attention drawn to you the author and getting people interested in your book.
--------
11/27/2010
1. There is nothing stopping you the authors' of sending your book to book reviewers to see if they will review
your book. Always remember to send a copy to your publisher.
2. There is nothing stopping you the authors' from placing ads of your book in those magazines that pertains to
your book.
3. Join Writers' / Authors' Guilds and send them a copy of your book and information about yourself and about
the book and include your author page or your book page link from your publishers website. And mention to
people where they can buy your book from.
4. Search the web for sites that pertains to your book and start creating discussions forums about your book and
mention to people where they can buy your book and link your author page or your book page from your
publishers' website.

Selling your book through our distribution channels
Baker & Taylor (B&T) is one of our distribution partners and is a primary supplier to libraries. B&T distributes books, calendars,
music, and DVDs to schools and both public and specialty libraries worldwide.
LSI submits its title metadata to B&T along to all of our distributors. At Ingram Book Company (IBC) and Amazon, Barnes &
Noble and all of our title info is picked up, where the audience is, the general consumer. Since B&T targets libraries they will, on
occasion, elect not to carry a specific title-- regardless of the printer or publisher -- if they feel it won't generate interest from their
target audience.
LSI cannot *make* B&T or any of our distributors carry a title. It is completely at the discretion of the book buyers at these
Main Home Offices. While a title setup at LSI should be on B&T or any of our distributor sites, we cannot *guarantee* it will be.
