About the Book

Greatness from small beginnings. Three young men climb from the garbage heaps of the under class to stand over the ashes of just about everyone. This is a story of growth in the
face of death, creation in the fields of destruction. Cruel upbringings prepared the three for a time when all became heartless. Now in the face of unheard of genocide and total war,
they improve themselves.

While the rest of America huddles in refugee camps or is ground to dust on the front lines, Mitch, Wade or Timothy farm the killing fields and even plant a few new graves. This
book is for anyone who has ever admired natural toughness in seemingly insignificant people. This one is for the survivors.

Christopher Drake’s The Cruel New World is the first book in a series of action novels about rural folks surviving in the American back country during World War Three. Communist Red China
has invaded the United States of America, and a group of rednecks try their best to stay alive in a world that is imploding before them. These people aren’t heroes. They are anti-heroes. The sort
of average folks you would find at a gun show, a seedy bar, or drunk at a NASCAR race. Actually, some of these folks are a bite below average and could be termed as “poor White trash” or
“lowlifes," but they are the types of common people who down through history have risen in times of need and became true heroes.

Christopher Drake is a capable writer who knows well the country folks he writes about. Mr. Drake is a proletarian author in the same working class camp as the two-fisted hard drinking writers
Jack London and Frank Norris. He writes from the sweaty brow of the common man.

Christopher Drake makes his people come to life. The Cruel New World gives the reader engaging characters and page turning excitement.

Christopher Drake’s The Cruel New World is a prophetic novel about things that may well come true. The realism of Mr. Drake’s fiction makes it important.

Reader Review                         Gunter38

Not what I'm used to. That is a good thing.
This book starts you off with complete scum of the earth and carries them through the horrors of WW3. To be honest, I thought it was another zombie book until I read the first two
chapters. The first two chapters are entertaining but really give you no clue as to what is going to happen.

I really like Wade, the youngest and most fearless. I also enjoyed some of the light dark-humor scattered through the book. I felt like the book gave a lot of description and action.
It really makes you as yourself wonder, what would I be doing duing a brutal war?
